Bottomless Bellybutton by Dash Shaw is a massive graphic novel but surprisingly easy to read. It’s a fairly slow-paced story about the adult children of an elderly couple, coming together as a family to get used to the idea that their parents are getting divorced. The book follows the different characters during their ‘holiday’ break as they learn new things about themselves and each other. I realise I’m not really selling this here, on paper it sounds a little dull but Bottomless Bellybutton is actually brilliant and I couldn’t put it down. What amazes me is I’d never heard of it before, it was another Hillhead library find for me. Don’t be put off by it’s size- I read it in 2 days.
