I actually read ‘Superf*ckers’ by James Kochalka ages ago, but was reminded of it during a well-needed sort out of one of our comics boxes. This is my favourite thing by Kochalka; I find American Elf a little too naval-gazing, and although I liked Peanut Butter and Jeremy a lot, it did get unbearably twee in parts. Superfuckers is the opposite of naval gazing and tweeness. It’s about a bunch of so-called superheroes, most of whom are egotistical assholes, others pathetic victims to their bullying behaviour. It might not sound it but it’s very funny, and I love Kochalkas bright colourful style. I only have the issue pictured above and I’ve been tempted by the nice graphic novel-style collection in Waterstones many a time.
