I picked up ‘Calamity Jack’ by Shannon, Dean and Nathan Hale (a couple and a no-relation) during a frantic visit to Partick library in which I also managed to take out a gaelic version of Jekyl and Hyde. I knew this comic wasn’t my kind thing- a fantastical retelling of Jack and the Beanstock with pixies, monsters and cowgirls- but I was drawn to the vivid colour and imagery. Like I said, not my favourite, but I couldn’t put it down. Imaginative and cinematic, I would have loved this story when I was younger.
